About

My name is Mycah Hatfield and currently I am a reporter/MMJ at ABC 13 in Houston, Texas.

Previously, I worked in Tulsa as a reporter and was part of Emmy winning coverage of the August 2017 tornado and placed first in General News for the 2018 AP Broadcaster Awards. I covered all nine days of the historic teacher walk out and First Lady Melania Trump’s visit to a Tulsa school. I covered Michael Bever’s mass murder trial. I was awarded the Governor’s Disability Employment Excellence Award for my continued coverage of an organization that serves people with developmental disabilities.

I also worked in Lafayette, La. at KATC. I covered a variety of stories. Just a few months after I started, Lafayette faced a shooting at the Grand Theater in July of 2015. I was also able to cover the Alton Sterling shooting and the vigils and protests that followed. Just a few weeks later, three Baton Rouge police officers were killed and three others injured. I was on Airline Highway as it unfolded. I was knee deep in the historic flooding in 2016 covering the storm and the clean up efforts. I covered murder trials, including the Felix Vail trial that was featured on 20/20, crime stories, festivals and Mardi Gras celebrations.

In December of 2016, I won a Golden Heart Award from the Louisiana Humane Society for my continued coverage of animal cruelty cases in the area.

I attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in December of 2014 from the Gaylord College with a degree in Journalism. During college, I interned with KOCO and News 9-KWTV in news, KPRC in sports and the Oklahoma City Thunder in their broadcast department. I was also a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, where I held several positions.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and watching the Oklahoma City Thunder and Sooner football and basketball.
